Monday Morning and Armchair Quarterbacks

6 February 2017

Well, it seems the Falcons blew it last night . . . Patriots pulled it out at the end.

I got home last night after the game started, so I missed most of the first half . . . it was 21-0 when I turned the TV on. I didn't pay much attention to it since I'm really not a huge football fan . . . probably should have joined the kids at church for their Super Bowl party . . . I was at the office too late and didn't feel like stopping.

I figured the Falcons were a shoe in for the win . . .

. . . I was wrong!

I have no idea what happened to that first half team Atlanta sent in . . . or maybe New England found their mojo . . . obviously they found something! What a heartbreaking loss for Atlanta!

Now it's Monday morning, and I'm surrounded by football fans at work . . . a bunch of Monday Morning Quarterbacks. Some people call them "Armchair Quarterbacks" since they'll sit and scream at the television . . . telling coaches how to coach and players how to play and referees how to make calls. I'll hear . . . play by play . . . what each one of them would have done to make a difference had they been the quarterback . . . the coach . . . whatever position or play they would have changed!

You know what? Let me tell you a little secret: You can't make a difference if you're not a player! It doesn't matter now! Nothing will change the outcome of this Super Bowl!!

Football games don't matter . . . not in the bigger picture. Oh, I'm sure there are a lot of people who lost money on the game . . . there are probably players who'll get traded . . . or worse, fired . . . team owners will inevitably chew the coaches out . . . maybe even let one or more of them go.

But today is Monday . . . and life goes on . . . they'll suit up for the next season and play like hell to make it to Super Bowl LII.

You're going to look back one day . . . on things you've done . . . things you didn't do . . . things you should have done . . . things you wish you'd never done . . . and be the Monday Morning Quarterback. Why? Because when you're looking back, things seem clearer. It's called experience.

If you made a mistake, don't repeat it. If you were successful, do it again. If you have no idea what happened, and it's important, do something different to achieve a better outcome. But turn your eyes to what lies ahead . . . and start making the best decisions you can. We can all look back . . . know full well what SHOULD have been done . . . because we've gained a little more wisdom . . . hopefully anyway!

But don't be a Monday Morning Quarterback . . . if you want to make a difference, then get in the game! So, maybe you won't "win" every time, but at least you will have tried . . . you will have been there . . . put on the uniform . . . and played your heart out! I don't care what path in life you choose . . . just get in there and do the best you can . . . even if you're surrounded by incompetent people!

Well, I do actually care what path you choose in life . . . be sure to make it a good one!

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:2-5
