E For Me!

19 May 2017

"E for me!"

Naming kids is a challenge! You want to make sure you give your children good solid names that will grow up with them . . . won't embarrass them somewhere along the way . . . don't sound too babyish or too young. It's hard.

Your mom's name came straight out of a baby name book . . . well, the Caitlain part did anyway . . . I wanted a name that, geographically, would match our last name. Chidester is Welsh, so, ideally, her first and middle names should come from the U.K. The original spelling is Caitlin . . . so I messed THAT up!

But the problem was your grandfather and I didn't really see eye to eye on names, so coming up with a first name for your mom proved to be difficult. We didn't even choose it until I was in the delivery room . . . pushing her out!

When I got pregnant with your Auntie E, I simply handed him a list of names that I liked and told him to choose two of them . . . made it a lot simpler than sitting there one night throwing out name after name that I knew would be rejected anyway!

I didn't realize . . . until after she was born . . . that her initials were ETC . . . but it worked out adorably!

For some reason, we called the girls "C" and "E." I labelled everything they owned with those letters as well . . . I HAD TO . . . to preserve my sanity! For Heaven's sake, they would only sit on "their" side of the car too! Not to mention I had to buy two different brands of panties and socks so they could tell them apart!

I can't explain why "C" didn't stick, but "E" did. Even your mom called her E. Then, from the time your Auntie E could talk, she would walk around saying "E for me!" But boy, if any of us said that . . . "E for me!" . . . she'd get all kinds of bent out of shape!

I'm actually kind of hoping you grow up to call her "E for me" . . . I think that would be funny as all get out!

Oh yeah, today's her birthday . . .
